Explore The Characters & Setting Of Psychic Suit
Setting
Our modern world. Cell phones, cars, airplanes, and all the comforts of modern life. What is different is the existence of superpowered human beings known as “Psychics”. Although their name suggests psychokinetic abilities, that scratches the surface of what they can do.
Each is blessed with various powers, from energy to fire, to lightning, to magic. Blessed by an alien meteor that landed in Africa millions of years before humans. As the first people to stumble upon the metal, it, in its infinite wisdom, blessed them and their future generations with the power it carried from the stars. They called the metal “Psychanium,” and to them it is sacred. The sale and distribution of this metal is highly regulated, as it is the strongest in the world and powers a slew of advanced technologies. Any Psychianium not sold by the Psychics is considered a black market good, and they will not be forgiving of those who traffic in it.
Their monopoly over this metal and its mystical and advanced properties caused its value to skyrocket. Using the wealth they gained from it and the political cache it bought them with every world government that ever wanted to sniff a piece, they embedded themselves in high society. Although never specified in the book, the combined net worths of all the Psychic families can easily reach into the trillions. This level of wealth and power, along wth the fact that Psychics are literally superhuman, led to the passage of “The Psychic Act”. A piece of legislation voted on by nearly every country in the world, giving Psychics full jurisdiction over the planet. No laws apply to them. From as petty as jaywalking, to as serious as murder, The Psychic Act covers them completely. Some may ask how this can come to pass, but in exchange for the sale of the metal and the assistance of Psychics with serious domestic issues (such as the terror attacks that take place throughout the story), it was a small trade to make.
The main antagonists of this story, known as “The Circle,” steal large amounts of this metal and technology from the Psychics and turn it on the world, wreaking terroristic havoc upon all who oppose them.
Parts of the book will take place in both rural and developed areas. From fights in the jungle to urban rooftop chases, the setting will vary. New York City, England, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Austin, and others. International terrorists have international targets, and The Psychic Act compels them to do nothing, but it’s advised to solve problems such as this to keep the world happy.
Characters
Protagonists
Versia: While there is no de facto leader of the Psychics as they all descend from different houses that agree to share power, he can be seen as one-half of the center of the story. He is the Cyan Psychic Suit, blessed with energy-based abilities. He is the “moral center” of the Psychics and seeks to do good because it is good. Although he suffers from chronic anxiety, which he takes a complicated Psychianum-derived medication for, he seeks to live up to the example set by his ancestors.
Isazisi: The other half of the center of the story. Isazisi, whose name means harbinger in Xhosa, is the leader of an organization called Providence. He is the Red Cyan Psychic Suit. They are a global intelligence and paramilitary force tasked with handling existential and extraterrestrial threats, although they more or less exist to handle issues that Psychics deem “below” their pay grade. As director, he has full control of the most advanced military and intelligence force on the planet. This becomes important throughout the story. He suffers from bipolar disorder. Something that the Psychics go to great lengths to conceal, as any crack in their image can be fatal. The people will not believe in gods who bleed. As all Psychics do, he seeks to live up to the legacy left behind, one of violence, but that has kept the peace. This desire is almost crushing, and paired with his bipolar episodes, makes him highly unstable at times. A human nuke that can go off at any time.
Caitlyn: She can almost be considered the third piece of the center of the story. She is another Psychic who descends from a legacy that carries weight and expectations. She is the Blue Lightning Psychic Suit. Everything about her, even her name, was chosen for her generations ago, before even her great-great-grandparents were born. This reflects the seriousness with which the Shen Dynasty takes the sacrality of both the metal and those who may have an opportunity to be a Psychic. The gene sometimes skips generations. She is one of the emotional anchors of the story; she suffers from depression, and it can get bad at times. She is also an alcoholic, as the crushing weight of the expectations that have been on her since she was able to walk and talk, eat at her constantly. An overbearing mother who wasn’t blessed with Psychic powers also tries to live vicariously through Caitlyn, further contributing to her mental anguish. Don’t let her conditions allow you to leave your guard down. When locked in, she is easily one of the most dangerous people on the planet
Resse: One of the top commanders in Providence, she is a good leader and a strong fighter. She is also in an intimate relationship with Isazisi. She holds him back from going too far, but also pushes him to be who he needs to be. She is the Red Peacock Psychic Suit. While no stranger to violence, she doesn’t revel in it the way some other Psychics may or may not. Although she takes orders and does her job, don’t mistake her for anything other than the most capable of operators.
Jake: While he doesn’t work for Isazisi at Providence, he is still a capable and loyal member of the Psychics. He is the Wind Psychic Suit. He is also in an off-and-on intimate relationship with Caitlyn. While completely in love with her, she doesn’t always return the same energy, mostly due to her condition. She characterizes herself as “hard to love”, but he is willing to put up with everything and anything to be with her. While he descends from a powerful legacy, he doesn’t talk much about it.
Vashti: The Pink Spider Psychic Suit. She is a powerful player for the Psychics. Skilled in espionage, breaking and entering, and avoiding detection. She is in a relationship with Versia.
Issac: The Project Red Psychic Suit. He is quite aloof in his dealings with other Psychics, although he respects them enough. He is a powerful Psychic blessed with star/solar powers. He works closely with the USAF and is a direct liaison between the Psychics and the government in some ways.
Mia: An FBI agent turned Psychic. She is the Solaris Psychic Suit and has star/solar-based powers.
Mai: Another one of Isazisi’s top commanders, she is the Pink Fengshan Psychic Suit. She also has wind-based powers and serves as a field agent for Providence. She has her own backstory and reason for why she does what she does.
Jasmine: The Shadow Psychic Suit. An extremely skilled markswoman who is deadly accurate with a sniper rifle. Her shadow-based powers allow her to slip in and out of places unnoticed, making her the de facto hitwoman for the Psychics. She takes on the toughest mission that requires an accuracy no one but Caitlyn, could even hope to rival. She is in an on-and-off relationship wth Sanjiv. She also has a backstory with Faye, an important member of the Circle who will be discussed in the next section.
Sanjiv: The Project White Psychic Suit. The other half to Issac’s fiery persona is Sanjiv. He has ice-based powers, which also give him special healing abilities. His relationship with Jasmine is complicated, but they are working it out. He and Versia have been on missions together for years.
Lily: The Blue Ocean Psychic Suit. She is compassionate and an activist in some ways.
Ava: Purple Magic Psychic Suit. A powerful asset with strong abilities
Allen: Flame Psychic Suit. A strong addition to the team that gives them a long-range firepower specialist.
Yemani: Yemaya Psychic Suit. Has water powers. Descends from one of the few legacies that didn’t shoehorn military training into every aspect of a Psychic child’s life, so she doesn’t suffer from the same trauma they do. A capable operator and CIA asset, she brings quite a bit to the table.
May: Brand new Psychic who was fooled by the Circle into becoming an asset. Is the sister of Kai
Kai: Brand new Psychic who was fooled by the Circle into becoming an asset. Is the brother of May
Antagonists
Flecther: The leader of the Circle. A do-it-yourself kind of guy. He doesn’t hide in the shadows and let others get the work done. He personally plans and executes terror attacks across the globe. A capable operator with a military, science, and technology background. A real threat despite not having superhuman abilities. Driven by a twisted sense of justice and a personal vendetta, he so far is the greatest threat this new generation of Psychics has faced.
Faye: Almost can be seen as a second in command. A capable operator with a tragic past. She and Jasmine have history. She is not a meek woman who stands in the shadows of Flecther, but a woman who will watch the world burn to get what she wants and has the skills to make it happen.
Mike: Another loyal Circle agent dedicated to spreading terror and mayhem.
Jessica: Another loyal Circle agent dedicated to spreading terror and mayhem.
